Why Blogging for Money Should Not Be Your End Goal
Blogging for money is an idea that is constantly thrown around and has us think anyone can do it. You sit down, write a post or several, and boom — you’re making money.
Except not really. Let’s be frank: blogging for money should not be your end goal.
It’s often seen as a way to make a quick buck, but that’s not what blogging is about. Sure, you can make some money from blogging — but that should not be your main focus.
When you start blogging, it’s important to have clear goals in mind. What are you hoping to achieve?
Are you looking to connect with other bloggers? Share your thoughts and ideas with the world? Build a brand?
All of these are valid reasons to start blogging — and none of them involve making money.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with making money from blogging. But if this is your only goal, you’re likely to be disappointed.
Building a Brand with Your Blog
To build a brand with your blog, you will have to blog consistently.
Not only that, but building a brand with your blog takes time and patience. If blogging is really something you want to dedicate yourself to, then understand that blogging shouldn’t be just another thing on your list of things to do.
That means blogging shouldn’t just be something you casually toss out there as an afterthought for the world to see.
If blogging intrigues you or interests you, make blogging your top priority — not because blogging can help you make money one day, but because blogging can introduce who you are and what makes you tick off to a large community of people all over the world!
Blogging for Beginners
However, blogging can also be a great way to make money, so now let’s talk all things blogging for beginners.
When someone mentions blogging, they are most likely talking about writing on your own website — creating content that is accessible online via the web.
You may have looked into blogging before but didn’t know where to start because blogging can be confusing at first.
The good news is there are many free blog sites out there like wordpress.org and blogger.com that allow you to create an account (completely free), upload pictures/videos.
However, I would not recommend those FREE sites if you want to make money blogging. For that, I highly recommend you get your own self-hosted website.
There once was a blogger using a FREE site who became so popular he ran out of space for comments!
Making Friends
When you blog in a specific niche you are bound to meet new people who share the same interests as you. Oftentimes, you will become friends with these other bloggers.
It’s a great way to boost each other’s blogs up and collaborate as well. Some blogger friendships last a short time while others may last over a decade.
Furthering Your Career
Did you know some people have furthered their careers through their blogs? Yes, that can be done too.
You can build your blog like an extended resume. Showcase what your know and your talents will stand out.
This can be done via videos, text and multi-media all from your blog.
Selling Products or Services on Your Blog
Now on to make money from your blog.
One great way to do that is to sell your own products or services. Here are a few tips on how you can implement blogging for money:
1. Decide what you want to sell
The first step is to decide what you want to sell. Do you want to create your own physical products, like clothes or jewelry? Or do you want to offer services, like coaching or consulting?
2. Figure out your target market
Next, you need to figure out who your target market is. Who are the people most likely to buy what you’re selling?
3. Create a product or service that meets their needs
Once you know who your target market is, you need to create a product or service that meets their needs. What do they want or need that they can’t find elsewhere?
4. Set up a sales page or website
The next step is to set up a sales page or website where people can buy your products or services. This is where you’ll promote your products and make it easy for people to buy them.
5. Market your product or service
Finally, you need to market your product or service. You can do this by blogging about it, tweeting about it, posting about it on Facebook, and so on.
It’s also polite to ask questions when explaining things in order to engage readers’ interest. Also, I write in plain English instead of formal language so that the article is easy to understand for anyone reading it.
This tone of voice is one that helps me improve upon my writing skills
6. Use Sponsored Content
Brands are always looking for new places to advertise, and blogging can be a great way to do that. Sponsored content is when a brand pays you to write about them or their product.
The upside of sponsored content is that it’s usually pretty easy money — all you have to do is insert their content in your blog with a link.
The downside is you may accept some sponsored content that is not relative to your blog. You don’t want to short side your blog with irrelevant content for a few bucks!
7. Profit! (advertising, affiliate programs, etc.)
Once people start buying your products, affiliate products, or services, you can start blogging about them and make even more money blogging!
However, don’t forget to say thank you as a thank you in blogging is very important for readers and customers to hear.
What is your end goal for your blogging? I’d love to hear about it in the comments here.
