New hype youtube feature for smaller accounts
The new hype feature on YouTube.

How is the 500,000 subscriber count considered small on YouTube? Data has shown that 96.6% of YouTube accounts have 10,000 or less subscribers.

That means just over 3% of channels are over the threshold for the new Hype YouTube Program. (It is not yet available in the United States but will be soon.)

My friend blogger Tim on X was talking about this earlier and I asked him again what the numbers were:

youtube subscriber stats
The post about how many subsribers people have on YouTube.

Imagine 90% have fewer than 1,000 subscribers. That’s why YouTube’s threshold of up to 500,000 subscribers seems high!

What Is The Hype?

The hype is a new thing where users on YouTube can “hype” videos they love on YouTube. Users are allowed to hype 3 videos per week. (It is similar to a like but called a hype.)

No more than 3 are allowed. So choose the videos to hype carefully.

What Are Benefits For Creators?

The benefit is creators earn points when other users hype their YouTube videos.
