Do Status Updates Drive More Reach Than Links?
I’ve been noticing more and more lately on LinkedIn and Twitter that more users are using status updates vs. sharing link content.
Now, with the new Twitter impression counter feature, you can see they are driving more views than anything else on the social network.
On both of these social networks, more conversations are happening with people posting status updates.
What Are Status Updates?
Status updates on social media are posts that a user writes about their status. It could be asking others a question, stating a fact, or telling a short story about their day or business.
The user shares their feelings, thoughts, experiences, and maybe their whereabouts in the status update with their audience.
Sometimes I do it to share a lesson I’ve learned in my business or blogging. I want to help others learn from my mistakes so I’ll share them in a status update.
Why Do Most People Love Status Updates?
People love reading them because they feel as though they know you. They can relate better to you when they read an update from you about your day, your life, your experiences, etc.
Not only that but they can engage with you on the platform where you share your status update. Whether it be LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, or alternative social networks, people can engage with you on them.
Are We Going Back To The Basics?
Is sharing status updates going back to basics, like saying good morning or how are you?
I believe this a good thing: People are communicating more with each other with status updates vs. screaming links at everyone on their social channels.
Who wants to be sold to on social media? Most of you like to be entertained and social with others there, right?
Schedule Your Status Updates
There are great tools you can use today to schedule your status updates on various social channels. I love scheduling them at optimal times of the day on the various networks.
If you wait until the moment hits you, you may miss days. And days can turn into weeks and months.
You can set certain days or times for specific types of content, making it easier for you to plan out each post ahead of time and ensure that there is something new going out on a regular basis.
This also helps ensure that you don’t miss any important dates or holidays, as well as gives you more time to focus on creating quality content rather than worrying about when it will go out.
Some tools even let you respond and engage with users.
Will Links Go Away?
I do wonder if social media posts with links will become fewer and fewer as we go on in 2023. I’ve noticed a drop in traffic over 2022 from social media. The organic reach is not as it once was from social media.
Spending more time on SEO has grown website traffic for sites that I manage.
So you may be wondering why use it at all.
Social Media Is For Networking
Yes, you can network on social and collaborate with others. I’ve still generated new clients via social media. It was not from a link either. It was from networking.
Getting back to basics I believe is what social media marketing will be about in 2023. What’s your take on that?
